What are the Configuration and Platform in the Solution Properties?

What are the Configuration (Active(Debug), Debug, Release and All Configurations) and Platform drop down menus in the solution properties configuration used for?

When you are in the Property Pages dialog for a project the Configuration drop down menu allows you to control which build configuration (Active(), Debug, Release, or All Config.) you are editing. Even if a different configuration is currently being used to build the project.

Currently the Platform drop down menu has no use since the platform can not be chaged from Win32 to .NET or from .NET to Win32.

The configuration labeled Active is the configuration currently being used to build the project
