having used the begugger and closed the program when i go to reopen ED I get the following EDW4 Error ' Can't create filename for unique temporary file d:\..\Temp\ed_swap$4'. This usually requires restarting my PC numerous times before I can access the program again. I am running Windows2000. Any help would be much appreciated.

Some questions -
Which compiler and version are you using?
Are you using the SOLD or the WinFDB debugger?
Did you recently change to the Win2000 OS?
Try taking a look at your ED4W.INI file. Does the swap directory exist, does it have enough disk space, and do you have permission to write to the directory?

Hmmm.
The information does not really help to figure out what is going on. We dug around in the archives, and found a similar problem from ages ago. At that time, the guys who make ED thought the problem might be corrupt configuration files, and recommended deleting all configuration files having your initials as an extension wherever they occur. The next time you start ED, it will generate a new set of configuration files for you. They went on to say if this didn't fix the problem, that ED should be removed and reinstalled. Sorry, but that's about all we've got, here.

LaheyED seems to be having problems with temporary files. On some systems they are not being deleted when LaheyED terminates. These undeleted files can prevent LaheyED starting and it generates the error: "Can't create Filename for unique temporary file 'C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\ed_swap.$X'". If this error is generated delete all LaheyED temporary files (ed_swap.$X where x is an integer) in the directory specified in the error and re-try. We haven't determined why they aren't deleted and why they stop the editor for starting. You may have to repeat this process in the future.
