Visual Studio: Opening a Fortran source file in Explorer fails in VS

Symptoms
Double-clicking on a Fortran source file (*.f95,*.f90,*.for,*.f) in Windows Explorer fails with Windows error "file not found". But, the file pathname appears correct in the message. File>Open in Visual Studio can open the file okay.
Cause
Bug in Visual Studio Fortran integration.
Workaround
Open Visual Studio, select Open from the File menu, then select the file(s).
Status
Open.
